Kelly Stevenson, one of the current long-term residents at the Archie
Bray Foundation in Helena, makes emotionally driven, figurative
ceramic sculptures. Her work is fueled by her personal experiences and
recurring themes of transition in her life. She is curious about how
people, as complex beings, exist and survive in dynamic
environments. Stevenson pairs mixed media materials with her
ceramic figures and seeks to communicate on a visceral and
intellectual level with the viewer. She hopes to trigger emotional,
dynamic displays of expression in the viewer as a means of bridging
individual and universal experience.
Stevenson has a BFA in Ceramics from Montana State University and
attended the post-baccalaureate program at the University of Montana.
She earned her MFA from Georgia State University. While there she
was selected to participate in the 2015 NCECA National Student Juried
Exhibition and received accolades for her piece “Groundless
Disengagement” by Ceramics Monthly magazine.
